Excerpt from 1982 Ovation Catalog:
One of our most popular guitars among studio and performing musicians, the Ovation legend is a proven winner. One of the reasons is dependability. Performing musicians put their instruments through a real workout. They expect their guitars to stand up to the rigors of the road and perform consistently night after night. The Legend does just that.
Combined with our best Ovation guitar design, the Legend has a special neck configuration encompassing the exclusive Kaman Bar. A "U" shaped aluminum casting bonded into the Legend's neck, the Kaman Bar incorporates a 1/4" steel tension rod allowing adjustments of the neck for any type of playing. The Kaman Bar also provides the added benefit of a bolt on neck making possible a perfect alignment of the neck and bowl. This produces an extremely roadworthy instrument with a stiffer neck, resistant to external forces that could cause it to twist or otherwise lose its shape. The Ovation legend - a true performer.
